Delicious Deep-Fried Turkey Recipe for Your Next Feast

Deep-fried turkey is a succulent and flavorful alternative to traditional roasted or baked turkey, offering an irresistibly crispy exterior and tender, juicy meat. A popular choice for festive occasions, deep frying a turkey involves immersing the whole bird in hot oil, usually peanut or vegetable, and cooking it at high temperatures. This method locks in moisture, creating a delectable result that often wins the hearts of culinary enthusiasts. Despite its rich and indulgent taste, caution must be exercised while preparing deep-fried turkey, as improper handling can lead to hazardous situations such as fires or burns.

Ingredients:

  • 12-14 pound turkey, thawed
  • 3-4 gallons of peanut oil
  • 1/2 cup kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Begin by thoroughly patting dry the turkey with paper towels and removing the giblets and neck.
  2. Mix together the kosher salt, brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, and black pepper in a large bowl.
  3. Rub the spice mixture all over the turkey, both inside and out. Then, place the turkey on a wire rack set over a baking sheet, and allow it to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  4. Heat the peanut oil in a large, deep pot or fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Gently and carefully lower the turkey into the hot oil, ensuring that it is fully submerged. Fry the turkey for about 3-4 minutes per pound, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the breast or thigh.
  6. Carefully remove the turkey from the oil and transfer it to a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Allow it to rest for 15-20 minutes before carving.
