Citrusy Herb-Infused Grilled Trout

Trout is a prominent species of freshwater fish recognized globally for its gentle flavor profile, soft meat, and abundant nutritional benefits. A close relative to salmon, trout thrives in pristine, cold water bodies such as lakes and streams throughout North America and Europe. Its high protein content, richness in vitamins, and beneficial omega-3 fatty acids make it a prime choice for a healthful diet. Trout’s culinary versatility allows it to be prepared in a myriad of ways, including baking, grilling, and sautéing.

Recipe: Citrusy Herb-Infused Grilled Trout

  • 2 cleaned whole trout
  • 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 2 lemons (one for slicing, one for extracting juice)
  • A handful of assorted fresh herbs (consider thyme, dill, and parsley)
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

  1. Set your grill to heat at medium-high intensity.
  2. Thoroughly rinse the trout with cold water and pat dry using paper towels.
  3. Prepare a marinade by combining the extra virgin olive oil, finely chopped garlic, juice from one lemon, and the chopped fresh herbs in a small bowl. Season with salt and pepper to your preference.
  4. Generously apply the marinade both inside and outside of the trout, ensuring full coverage. Position a few lemon slices and extra herbs inside each trout.
  5. Allow the trout to grill for approximately 5-7 minutes on each side. The trout is ready when the skin turns crispy and the meat appears opaque, easily flaking off with a fork.
  6. Present the trout fresh off the grill, adorned with additional lemon slices and fresh herbs.
