Recipe for Chicken Cordon Bleu

Preparation time: 20 minutes

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Total time: 50 minutes

Servings: 4

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 thin deli ham slices
  • 4 Swiss cheese slices
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Dijon Mustard Sauce:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme

  1. Set the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Position the chicken breasts on a cutting board and flatten them to a thickness of 1/4 inch. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. Lay a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast. Fold the chicken breasts, enclosing the fillings, and use toothpicks to hold them together if needed.
  4. Combine the flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika in a shallow dish. In a separate dish, beat the eggs and water together. In a third dish, mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder.
  5. First, dip each chicken breast in the flour mixture, followed by the egg mixture, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing firmly to ensure adherence.
  6. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken breasts and cook until golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Move the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is thoroughly cooked and no longer pink inside.
  8. While the chicken bakes, make the Dijon mustard sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, and dried thyme. Simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  9. Remove the chicken from the oven, take out the toothpicks, and let it rest for 5 minutes. Drizzle the Dijon mustard sauce over the chicken before serving.
