Total Time: 2 hours 30 minutes

  1. 2 cups flour (for all purposes)
  2. 2 cups white sugar
  3. 3/4 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  4. 2 teaspoons leavening powder
  5. 1.5 teaspoons sodium bicarbonate
  6. 1 teaspoon table salt
  7. 1 cup whole milk
  8. 1/2 cup oil (vegetable)
  9. 2 eggs (large size)
  10. 2 teaspoons extract of vanilla
  11. 1 cup water (boiling hot)
  12. 2 cups cream (heavy)
  13. 1/2 cup icing sugar
  14. 1/4 cup sauce (caramel)
  15. Chocolate flakes for topping

  1. Set your oven to heat at 350°F (175°C). Prepare two 9-inch baking pans by greasing and lightly dusting them with flour.
  2. In a sizeable mixing bowl, add flour, white sugar, cocoa powder, leavening powder, sodium bicarbonate, and table salt.
  3. Into the flour mix, pour in whole milk, vegetable oil, large eggs, and vanilla extract. Blend until the mix is smooth.
  4. Slowly introduce the boiling water into the cake mixture. Despite the thinness of the batter, continue mixing.
  5. Divide the batter between the two prepped baking pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
  6. While the cakes cool, prep the caramel cream. Whip the heavy cream and icing sugar until it forms soft peaks. Add caramel sauce while continuously whipping until stiff peaks emerge.
  7. Once the cakes have cooled, apply a layer of caramel cream on one, place the second cake on top, and apply more cream on the top and sides. Sprinkle with chocolate flakes.
