Succulent Barbecued Ribs Recipe

Recipe for BBQ Ribs

  • 2 racks of pork baby back ribs (approximately 4 pounds)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic granules
  • 1 tablespoon onion granules
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (optional for added spice)
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce (your choice of store-bought or homemade)


  1. In a mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, smoked paprika, garlic granules, onion granules, sea salt, black pepper, and chili powder. Set this dry rub mixture aside.
  2. Detach the membrane from the rib racks by inserting a knife under the membrane and lifting gently. With the aid of a paper towel, grip and remove the membrane from the ribs.
  3. Coat the ribs evenly with the dry rub mixture, ensuring both sides are covered thoroughly.
  4. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) or set up your grill for indirect heat.
  5. If using an oven, position the ribs on a baking tray with a wire rack, meat side facing upwards. Enclose the ribs with aluminum foil and bake for 2 hours.
  6. If grilling, place the ribs on the grill grate, the meat side facing upwards, away from direct heat. Close the grill lid and cook for 2 hours.
  7. After 2 hours, extract the ribs from the oven or grill. Apply a generous layer of barbecue sauce to both sides of the ribs.
  8. If using an oven, raise the temperature to 350°F (175°C). Uncover the ribs and bake for an additional 30 minutes, brushing with extra sauce halfway through.
  9. If using a grill, return the ribs to the grill, meat side facing upwards, and cook for another 30 minutes, brushing with extra sauce halfway through.
  10. Once the ribs are tender and fully cooked, remove them from the oven or grill and allow them to rest for 5 minutes. Slice the ribs between the bones and serve with additional barbecue sauce on the side.
